We recently had the chance to talk with Dr. Sebring about his approaches to healthcare, his interests in the Paleo diet, and his work with the Patriot Health Alliance.
What Drew You to Medicine, Dr. Sebring?
I think in every doctor, myself included, there needs to be that fundamental desire to help. It’s a call to service in many ways. I discovered this in myself at a very young age and, combined with my enjoyment of science and health, it drew me down this natural path that seemed like it had always been there for me.
So ultimately, service is very important to me and something I hold dear to my heart. I decided to apply my natural talents in a way that could help others.
What Interests You About Holistic Health?
It considers the whole person, hence holistic. I think that is incredibly important, especially when working with patients. Too many practitioners these days treat symptoms, not people. I could go in to see a physician and they would prescribe me something based on symptoms.
With holistic health thinking, you consider the whole person, including their lifestyle, habits, et cetera. You’re looking at the roots of the person.
That was what also interested me and what I like about the Paleo Diet. It’s such a simple fix for a larger series of problems we’re seeing in society, health-wise, because it works with the whole body.
Tell Us More About Paleo
It’s an interesting approach to wellness. The majority of what you need to know is in the name! Paleo is short for Paleolithic and refers to a diet comprised of what our ancestors would’ve eaten. It forgoes processed foods in favor of whole foods that provide clean, efficient fuel for your body.
I’m well-versed in a lot of the popular diets of the days but I only ever really gravitated towards Paleo. It uses fundamental concepts for maximum effect and that’s always lined up with my approach to health and wellness.
What Are Your Goals?
That’s a broad question! I have many, though. I often find myself with so many goals, sometimes more than I can hope to execute, but that’s what keeps me moving. One of my big ambitions is to continue building the Sebring Clinic. I see it as the foundation for a health destination for individuals who are looking to reshape their lives. I think about that often.
Ultimately though, it comes down to whatever I can do to continue my mission of service.
What Advice Do You Have for Those Looking to Follow in Your Footsteps?
Study! But that’s a pretty simple explanation. I think truly what I can say is that you’re going to struggle. You’re going to be stressed. You’re going to feel overwhelmed at times. Power through it. If you can do that, you’ll be able to look back on the times leading up to your success with so much confidence. You’ll be able to see everything you’ve endured and tell yourself “I did that.”
Keep a positive mindset and always at least try. You’ll be shocked by how much good can come of it.
